New York based Japanese artist Shizue Imai creates works that transcend the traditional ideas of ceramics with decorative and sculptural objects of elegance and natural beauty. Blending native traditions with a modern sensibility, she references forms found in nature as well as classic and primitive vessels from Africa, Asia and the Americas. Each work is hand-built using traditional techniques with subtle, painterly surfaces. Imai's objects are imbued with an ancient, mystical feel that reveal the voice of a singular artist transforming design in clay. Imai's breadth and depth of forms is truly a testament to her mastery of the clay medium. Request a PDF of Available Work and Commissions: info@cocobolodesign.com
