New York based Japanese artist Shizue Imai creates
works that transcend the traditional ideas of ceramics with
decorative and sculptural objects of elegance and natural beauty.
Blending native traditions with a modern sensibility, she references
forms found in nature as well as classic and primitive vessels
from Africa, Asia and the Americas. Each work is hand-built
using traditional techniques with subtle, painterly surfaces.
Imai's objects are imbued with an ancient, mystical feel and
reveal the voice of singular artist transforming design in clay.
Imai's breadth and depth of forms is truly a testament to her
mastery of the clay medium.
